Hestia comes from ThemeIsle, the makers of Neve, and it's built around Google's Material Design look — soft shadows, bold color blocks, a one-page scroll layout. Since we started tracking it in 2018, it's held on as one of the fifty most used themes we track. It's a paid product, not a free repo theme.

A material-design one-pager from ThemeIsle

The theme's identity is the Material Kit look: flat cards, elevation shadows, a single-page homepage with sections for services, team, pricing and a call to action. ThemeIsle also sells Hestia Pro, which unlocks more homepage sections and WooCommerce styling on top of the free base. The author pitches it at creative businesses, agencies, startups and shops — really just another way of saying it's general-purpose, built for a landing page rather than a traditional blog.

Who actually ends up running it

That general-purpose pitch matches the crawl. Hestia turns up most on nonprofits, sports and outdoor sites, schools, and religious or community groups, plus a fair number of agencies and photographers. It's not tied to one industry — a Salzburg student union, a Kyrgyzstan Erasmus+ office and a Japanese tech company all run it. English sites lead by far, with German and French installs making up most of the rest. If you want a theme that already looks built for law firms or restaurants, this isn't it — it looks built for a landing page, and whoever needs one adapts it.

What it does well

  • Genuinely fast to launch

The one-page structure and pre-built sections mean a simple brochure site can go live in an afternoon, without touching custom CSS.

  • A distinctive look

The Material Design styling still reads as modern years after launch and doesn't look like a generic multipurpose template.

  • Elementor-ready

Elementor compatibility is built in, and in our data it's by far the most common page builder paired with Hestia, so extending past the default sections is straightforward.

Where it shows its age

The one-page format is also its biggest limit: a proper multi-page site means fighting the layout, not using it. There's no real ecosystem of child themes, so customizing means building on top of the base theme rather than swapping in a variant. And being a commercial product, you don't get public repository reviews — support runs through ThemeIsle's own channels and licensing.

Built for Elementor, not the block editor

Out of the box, Hestia leans on the Customizer for colors, header style and section order, with its companion plugin, themeisle-companion, adding the widgets those sections need — it's the plugin we see installed alongside Hestia most often. Beyond that, most site owners bring in Elementor for anything past the template, plus Yoast for SEO, Contact Form 7 or WPForms for forms, and WooCommerce when a shop's needed. Elementor Pro shows up often enough to be a clear upgrade path.

Other options worth a look

If the one-page format doesn't fit, Twenty Twenty-Two is a fuller block-editor theme with no Material styling built in. For stores, Storefront is the more purpose-built WooCommerce theme. Want Hestia's visual ambition scaled into a full page-builder framework? Uncode sits in similar company. ThemeIsle's own Neve is worth a look too, for a more conventional, multi-page-friendly starting point.

A few things people ask

Is Hestia free?

No — Hestia isn't a free WordPress.org theme in our data; it's a commercial ThemeIsle product you license, with Hestia Pro as the paid upgrade tier.

What page builder does it use?

It's built to work with Elementor, and that's overwhelmingly the builder we see paired with it, though the base theme ships its own Customizer-driven homepage sections too.

Is Hestia good for an online store?

WooCommerce shows up on a modest share of the Hestia sites we track, so it can handle a shop, but its one-page bones aren't tailored for ecommerce the way Storefront's are.

So, is it right for you?

Hestia earns its long run in our data by doing one thing cleanly: a modern-looking, one-page brochure site that goes up fast. Pick it for a startup landing page, a nonprofit's public face, or a small agency site without deep navigation needs. Skip it for a content-heavy blog, a large multi-page corporate site, or anything that will outgrow a single scrolling homepage — you'll fight the format more than you'll use it.
